This is going to be a very
exciting week. Not only will I be
recapping the ATEEZ show finale on Sunday, but on Friday, we’re actually
getting a Season 2 of BOSS RIIZE!
The full title is BOSS RIIZE: Shanghai Impossible. I cannot wait.
Last year, I recapped the first season of BOSS RIIZE. I had a lot of fun with it, especially since RIIZE is one of the first groups I got into when I started listening to K-pop. I honestly was not expecting a second series after all the drama that followed. Right after the finale aired, former member Seunghan was allowed back into the group after getting kicked out for doing nothing wrong, and the internet blew up.
I feel like that statement needs
emphasis. Seunghan did NOTHING wrong.
Pictured here: a
man who did nothing wrong.
Seunghan was welcomed back into the group, and I was over the moon. I wrote a celebratory follow-up and did a happy dance with the rest of BRIIZE. I was hoping that meant we’d get a Season 2 with all seven members, as the good Lord intended.
Of course, because everything
is terrible and we can’t have nice things, anti-fans created the most psychotic
hate demonstration I’ve ever seen by sending one thousand funeral wreaths with
Seunghan’s name on them to SM Entertainment.
Did SM Entertainment do the right thing and tell these anti-fans to shove their wreaths where their lightsticks don’t shine? No. They kicked him back out. Fans were devastated. Even worse, RIIZE was devastated. And they were on tour while this was happening. They had to try to carry on while dealing with the emotional turmoil.
Then there was an international boycott. I had mixed feelings about that, but rather than dig it all back up, I’ll just provide the links. If you want to read my Season 1 recaps and the essays on what followed, here’s where you can find them:
On Tumblr: The introduction is here. The recaps that follow can be hard to find because Tumblr limits links in posts, but if you want to read the whole series, message me and I’ll send you the links.
OR, to make it easier, you
can go to my website. This link take you to the Table of
Contents. Scroll down for the BOSS
RIIZE series, and you can easily click through to read all the recaps.
BOSS RIIZE: Shanghai Impossible will have six episodes, airing every Friday, starting this Friday, September 26. They will air on Mnet at 9pm Korea Time, which is 8am on the east coast of the United States. I’m hoping that’s when the episodes will go live on Kocowa.
So on Sunday, I will post the recap of the ATEEZ show finale, and sometime this weekend, I will also be posting the first RIIZE show recap. I love this giddy feeling I get when a new recap project is on the horizon. It helps that I loved Season 1 so much. The stakes will be even higher in Season 2, where RIIZE will split into two groups and battle their way across Shanghai in 3-on-3 challenges.
I’m very excited. Let’s do this. See you this weekend!
